Just finished. I don't know...I was looking forward to this episode after having just reread HFMP last week but I was kinda disappointed. They left out a lot of stuff and the episode as a whole didn't really show me anything more about Basilone and the romance with Leckie and Stella was kinda blah. They left out the part where Leckie was in the brig the 2nd time and all the other "action" and "romances" he was involved in. That hardly seemed like the "Great Debauch" of which he took part in.

Alot of stuff to cover in one episode, I doubt they had time to cover alot of it, like Leckie's second brig trip. No complaints from me...

:D

Again, seemed as though some of the scenes were a bit rushed or that content was left out.

Anybody notice the inconsistent music that the band was playing when the ship rolled in to port? The march was very clearly broken up, as though pieces of the scene were removed without editing the audio of the march.

I think it was a good episode...maybe it was just because all of his "debauchery" and experiences in Australia were fresh in my mind from his book. I didn't think they would make it seem that Leckie didn't ever party and see lots of girls besides Stella...which he did.

God I'm reading some of the stuff on the facebook fan page for the series...people are so stupid. They should actually read the books before they talk about what happened.

So did you guys think it was a better episode than 1 or 2? I have to ask...was there any character development? I have yet to see the episode but that's all people on IMDB have been bitching about for two weeks.

Don't think it was better but still enjoyable, and a nice change of pace.

We finally got decent character development. :)

So why exactly did that Greek girl break up with Leckie? It was unclear to me.

The preview for part 4 looked epic, by the way.

Episode 4 looks INCREDIBLE. I think that may be the one that give the show its legs to stand on. Episode 3 was my least favorite, thus far.

So far I think part 1 has been my favorite. Then again I've seen it 4 times....ep 2 I slacked off, only saw it three. And I've only seen Melbourne once. I'm not sure I liked the editing in this episode, it feels too choppy to me.

I agree about ep 4, but ep 3 was pretty bad honestly.

Not a very good episode. Bassilone was good, the rest of the acting was poor, story was weak. Let's get on with Sledge.

Really bored and really pissed off. I could not let my 14 year old watch this with the sex scene. We don't care who they had sex with. Did it really have to be so graphic? Hollywood needs to get a grip. Just tell us what the guys from this generation had been through. they did not get this right, it really sucked.

Trudi either you're a troll or you're really ignorant.

The 1st Marine Division literally went through a lot of Australian women. Also, the series is rated TV MA for a reason.

Why am I a troll or ignorant? I am really disappointed in the series. My dad served in the pacific and I was excited to see this. Why do you have call someone names? Who is ignorant?

"what this generation had been through"....ummm they were 20 year old guys fresh from combat with money to burn and lots of single ladies around...they had lots of sex and did lots of "immoral" things. deal with it. this is what they went through.

yeah- I get it..and its not Jimmy. I want my kid to appreciate what that generation had been through. I am not looking to go out of my way to show my kid violence, its about respect for that generation.

When I was 14 and unable to get dates, I had tons of respect for men who accomplished those things shown in sex scenes.

Oops.

I want to see what they went through, not some papered over cleaned up version. Just my $.02...keep the change.

Trudi, they have not held back in terms of violence so far. I find it strange you have no problems about letting your 14 year old watch people get machine gunned, but heaven forbid they show two people having sex. Keep in mind I have no issues with them showing either.
I've never understood this standard. Violence is more acceptable than sex(an act that involves the exact opposite emotions of violence) to most of our society.

I'll second that, this is what they went through. After going through the hell of Guadalcanal, I think they earned a little "immoral" behavior.

I agree. The episode didn't really flow well and the transitions were awkward. It was just all over the place, trying to do too much in so little time. I think it could be confusing to people who haven't read the book.
I still enjoyed it and there were funny moments... when the Marines had an unpleasant wake up call from the loud speaker (mean MP's!). It was hilarious how all of them were half awake and disheveled, including the officers.
