I disagree.

The Pacific is as an unflinching look at the effect this war has on the lives of a handful of men and women. It is graphic is it's depiction of combat, it is graphic in it's language, it is graphic in it's sex scenes. It would be ludicrous of it to show decapitations and exploding bodies but then coyly turn away at the bedroom door.

This show is graphic. Either read the warning and change the channel... or sit back and enjoy some of the best acting and writing on TV this year.

Finally, an episode that almost fills a complete hour. Unfortunately, it was filled with uninspiring sidestory more suited to the Oxygen network. Nervous flirtations with Aussie minxes and nearly stolen jeeps, naughty USMC hijinks hee hee!

I can hardly believe these men are fighting a war. I thought the first two episodes tended to understate the hugeness of the conflict and sacrifice made by these Marines, that is until I saw episode 3. I feel no connection or sympathy for these characters/actors.

I could never have concieved of a show/book that would make Basilone seem like a boring jerk, but if you didn't know his story (which I'm sure some people don't) you would hate the guy. The actor portraying him is awful, there is no sympathy there at all.

I am on the verge of giving up on this series.

Just gave this episode a re-watch, and, like the first episode, I liked it a lot more the 2nd time around.

It took me a while to watch it again, unlike the first 2 episodes, and yes it is better the second time around. Plan on watching it again right before episode 4.

Can't put my finger on it, but I've been disappointed in the series thus far. I'm just not enjoying it like I did with BoB. Storyline feels "rushed". Really, none of the episodes have reached "rewatch status" for me.

For me thru 3 episodes BoB (hell, even Generation Kill) are more memorable. Perhaps that will offend some here (but not intended).

Here's hoping it picks up in ep. 4 and beyond.

I honestly think the relationship between lecki and stella was beautiful.. that scene where lecki's sitting on the rooftop gazing down at her thinking " this is it, i'm at peace" and to have it all come back in his face.. giving him the greatest sensation of emotional pain a man can face (getting dumped) .

I did enjoy basilone in this episode.. when he hits the aussie and is standing in that combat stance ready to take on anyone else made me like him even more. I think its all believable and to be honest this episode really made me want to go out drinking. Tis a shame that there are no bars where everyone dresses up like ww2 marines and smokes lucky strikes. maybe i'll open one haha and we can all do our griping there.

Anyway in conclusion I thought this was a great episode. It made me really like lecki even more. Cant wait for episode 4.

I subscribe to the belief that Band of Brothers had a stronger start and a weaker end, and The Pacific will have a weaker beginning and a stronger end. Might be wishful thinking but it would be very hard for the episodes covering Peleliu and Okinawa to be mediocre. It's "With the Old Breed" on screen, that's captivating, horrific stuff.

Band of Brothers had a stronger end as well, you know especially with the scene where they liberate that Jewish work camp. Those scenes were the most poignant pieces of film I have ever seen in my life and ever will. I must admit thought that BOb had a weak start until that very poignant scene at the end of 'Carentan'

Personally I thought episode 3 was a good one. It shows just what R&R means to a person that's been through 4 months of hell that you can't describe. I did feel bad about Leckie being dumped the way he was, but in a way I can understand why she did it. And if anyone's interested, here's an interesting point of view on episode 3 http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2010/03/p ... greek.html

This was my favorite episode so far. I haven't read the books so I can't point out the historical inaccuracies. This episode seemed to help you connect with what the soldiers were going through.
The love story with Stella I thought fit perfectly. It helped build Leckie's character and build an attachment (at least for me).

Like many, I can't understand anyone complaining about a sex scene in a series filled with graphic grusome violence. I will say that the scene was fairly explicit, to the point where he reached down to guide himself in..

Stella was beautiful, and the "breakup" looks to be an important part of the story, which leads up to a potential spirit and mental breakdown for the marine.

Interestingly enough, the first two episodes were more forgettable to me than this one, despite their battle scenes.

The death camp episode was powerful but the center piece for BoB was the episode that centered on the Medic. That was by far the most powerful, tragic and beautiful hour of TV I have ever seen.

In fact, Robert Leckie seemed to be one of the most complicated characters I have come across in any biopic either in a movie or on television. I cannot recall any character in ”BAND OF BROTHERS” as complicated as him. Judging from his conversations with his Australian girlfriend Stella and her Greek-born mother, his demons had already been established before he saw combat or had joined the Marines.
