Hello,
Does anyone have the official air dates for Pacific in countries other than the USA? If so, can you post them in this thread. We're getting emails from folks asking when they can expect to see the show. I will also ask my HBO contacts.

Thanks!

I shall still get a vicarious thrill from hearing your thoughts on the series.

And no, I shan't download it. I shall just wait with great impatience for it to be shown here... with commercials :roll:... but at least it is on a free channel.

I agree. Though I'll be watching this online I'd prefer that over commercials. I watched BOB"s on the history channel and it really took away from it I think.

Channel Seven in Australia has started to advertise it (again ) but they only say ''coming in 2010'' But if i was a betting man i would say it will air either on the same day as the US or only a week after :D

Are the Seven ads any different from the HBO ones, or just the same old content?

Seven programming boss Tim Worner previously told TV Tonight, “It’s extremely powerful. I’ve now seen 3 episodes of that show. You don’t watch that show, you feel that show. It is the last of the great miniseries because of the economic model in the US. There will never be another miniseries like that where they spend over $200m making it. It just won’t happen.”

If I remember correctly, Seven was actually going to be showing the series before HBO, but that was changed a few months back (the first trailer “released” for the series was a Channel 7 one, after which it embargoed by the Seven and HBO lawyers. That said, it was fairly amateur, with the US version being a lot more polished).

Old content. They basically made their own montage with the same music of the online videos available on HBO.com. Don't worry, you won't miss out on anything. :D

Last night while watching a repeat of 'Why We Fight' on Channel Seven they shoved in 13 or 14 commercial breaks in the 60 minute episode and I assure you I'm not exaggerating.

Brazil is reportedly airing "The Pacific" in April 2010. That's what I've heard from a guy on the IMDB board.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice that. I think it blows bigtime that its being shown on Channel Seven. But I have my bases covered in terms of getting to see it without ads ...

Ooo, please tell me where. I don't want to watch a poignant scene in The Pacific to be disrupted by some commercial of some crappy show like Home and Away or Today Tonight.

See what Channel Nine has up its sleeve programming wise for 2010, if they screen anything big budget I reckon Channel Seven will broadcast THE PACIFIC at the same time.

I’m surprised. Being a production partner, I thought for sure Australia would get it maybe even the same week, or offset one week from the HBO broadcast. In this day, with so many other ways to watch television, especially programming in your own damn language, too long a wait is ridiculous. I can't believe you haven't heard by now. It took HBO a little longer to nail down the 14th as the official date, but we've known it would be in March for a while now. Do you think you'll have to wait until all ten episodes have aired in US? How exactly does that benefit HBO?

In a word ?. Yes.

If they were shrewd they would broadcast it on Seven Two but looking through that theres no sign of it as yet. Also you have to understand the Australian obsession with sports , no TV broadcaster in their right mind will screen TV (no matter how good) on a football final day for example.

Channel seven owns the rights for V8 supercars, but as a market its very much a nitch, their preference is clearly football or Tennis. Currently they're showing the Australian Open Tennis. A lot of the TV marketing for upcoming shows starts with " after the tennis ____"

HBO gets the bang for their buck and the Aussies get the scraps (as we say here )

How do you think they will handle the excessive runtimes (by normal network standards anyway) of The Pacific? I know when BOB was released in Britain, the BBC trimmed at least one scene (the troopship across the Atlantic) due to time constraints. That scene was the most coveted feature of the UK DVD release. It was like getting an extended episode. Was BOB similarly trimmed in your AO? Do they give it a longer time slot? (Tennis will start "after The Pacific") I would asked if they air it with less commericial interruption...but that's a silly question.

I believe Channel Nine showed BoB a few weeks ago, but late night timeslot so I didn't watch it. Its been a while since I have watched it on DVD to be honest, I've been working my way thru Ken Burns THE WAR instead. Just by way of context, THE WAR was screened with little or no fanfare about 2008 on a dead sunday afternoon timeslot on the ABC. I had read / heard about it from mates in the USA but was very surprised to see it shown here at all

As for ad breaks, as devineintervention stated Channel 7 is well known for going over their allotted quotas for ads per 60mins of TV.

Quote:
Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice
5.6 On any day each licensee may in each hour schedule on average no more than the following amounts of non-program matter:
5.6.1 between 6.00pm and midnight, 13 minutes;

Like I say Channel Seven may have the rights to screen it, but as for doing the production justice, I'm not holding my breath.....

Here we get an excessive amount of ads. BOB is currently airing and each 1 hour episode takes 1 hour 35 minutes.

However when watching TV in the States it used to bug me when a film ended and I might want to read the credits to find out the music or an actors name and they would reduce the size to half the screen and increase the speed so they could zip through the credits (obviously a contractual obligation) while showing the upcoming highlights of the next show or the latest breaking news.

Thank goodness for IMDB to find those credit details 8-)8-)

That might be what the History Channel does here with BOB reruns, but I'm not sure. The show is just not meant to have ads shoehorned in between scenes. The writers didn't build in defined act breaks. Ads are bad enough when they actually belong there...Jumping in where they don't belong throws off the whole rhythm of the show.

In The Netherlands the airdate is sometime in april for the Pacific on the Veronica channel, which sucks because this means there will a commercialbreak every 5 minutes or so.

The State / National newspaper the Courier Mail ran an article last week end about upcoming TV events for all the major channels and no mention made what so ever of THE PACIFIC.

So I predict after the US premiere
